Here is the situation. I work from home and have a cable modem. In order to connect to my work resources, I have to launch a VPN and connect through it. However, everything I do is monitored by my employer. Is there a way to configure one browser to use the underlying connection I have from my cable provider, and not send everything over the VPN connection (which is obviously riding over my cable connection.) For instance, Firefox can become my "personal" browser, but everything else on my machine will default to the VPN. As it currently works, once the VPN is connected, everything goes over the VPN....

Through a browser the only way you can reroute your packet flow is by using a proxy server. Everything gets sent through your NIC/router/modem last and that is where the VPN is set at.. With a proxy it will reroute everything that comes through and goes out of your internet browser past the VPN..
