ok so my computer has an IP adress and I have a modem capable of communicating via TCP using GPRS if I configure my computer's IP adress on the modem will it start recieving any data the modem throws at it?

hi you mentioned that your computer has ip and you want to set it to your modem at first your ip should be in the service provider routing table routers where your modem service from it if your ip there is in service provider you can send and receive data it is not important where you set your ip but at least it is important that the ip become in service provider because service providers have different ip address by the way your computer must have an ip you can use private ip address and then use nat service to translate your private address to your ip of service provider you should configure your modem
