I want something inexpensive since I am never home. Therefore, vonage, which costs 20 bucks is not a option. I do want to have a local phone number.

I know someone who has a VOIP home phone service and would like to get certain text messages sent to them there and get them via email as opposed to their cell phone. Has anyone ever heard of this idea or if it could be done?

Question: I haven't got much of an idea what I'm looking at, I need to buy a new phone for the house but I've seen some which are compatible with VOIP but are expensive, is it worth the extra money.

Any advice on the whole system would be great.

Answer: You don't need a VoIP compatible phone to use VoIP. You can use a regular telephone that plugs into a VoIP router. Most VoIP companies either charge very little for the router, or offer it free when you sign up for a plan.

One of the disadvantages of having a regular telephone plugged into a VoIP router is that it will be the only phone you can use. The fix for this is to get an expandable VoIP phone base. This is a VoIP phone with the router built in, and makes it possible for you to have multiple handsets throughout your home just like with a landline phone. This is why a VoIP compatible phone can be a bit costly.

Those of you having work at home jobs that requires you to have/use a landline phone. Is there something you use instead of the landline phone? Do you use VoIP?

in Indonesia we have ISP(internet service provider) but cost too expensive and no good signal in remote area (village Pedungan,Denpasar Bali). Can i build VOIP to connect internet?

My home security alarm monitoring service does not work anymore after I got VOIP service from vonage. I think the analog dialler in the alarm system is the culprit.

Any ideas on how to make it work? I don't want to get another line from AT&T just for this (the switch to VOIP was to save some $$)

We are w/Comcast now and have been for 2 yrs. We pay about per month, and have Never had Any problems with them at all or with the phone quality. WE have even used the 911 service twice w/no delay at all.

WE just signed w/TMobile for our cell phone, and they are offering VOIP home phone for a month. While I am happy with Comcast, I am thinking it is prob worth looking into. Is there a differnce with the type of VOIP? is one cable and one internet??
