I'm not worried about WiFi, but would like an integrated Gigabit switch with at least four LAN sockets. It should also have QoS for the VoIP.

I am a small business receiving between 3000 to 5000 faxes a month. For various reasons, hosted faxing is it for me, since I work from multiple locations. My current hosted faxing (myfax) is killing me in cost. I want to try out some cheaper ones, but am not sure about their reliability. I would like to use the virtual number to forward to whatever is my current fax number. Most virtual numbers layer another 1.5 to 10 cents per minute. My forwarding will be in the same area code, so I see no reason not to get a flat fee service. Do folks like vonage forward from the switch (ie pstn to pstn) or does it get come to my voip box before bouncing back? Thanks in advance for any help.

　　也许两者回答都是对，但又都不完整。就此话题，本人根据自己学习的经历谈谈对认证的看法和理解，供大家参考:

　　1、证书的真实和虚伪

　　广义上说，现阶段的就业，证书依然重要，证书是能力的抽象体现，是学习过程和结果的证明，没有证书，就不能证明自己!也许你真的能力很强，无论你说的多好，别人心里还是不会把你看的太重，试想，一个拿着高中毕业证的人和一个硕士研究生去应聘同一个技术型的工作，别人更看中谁?证书在一定的历史时期必定存在，我们不可以否定证书的重要性，就象国家教委颁发大学毕业证书一样!!

　　狭义的认证来说，比如网络技术这样的专业认证，如MCSE、CCIE、CCNP等等，首先我们要清楚这样的认证究竟带来了什么??从厂商的角度来说，无疑是利益最大化，推出网络技术学院、培训认证机构，这些策略最根本的用意无非是想推广自己的产品的知名度和拓展市场规模，当这些从大学里走出来的大学生们，在XX企业担任XX职位，企业一旦有所需求的时候，他第一个想到的是XX厂商的网络产品(当然排除其他外部因素，完全从个人本来的思想出发)，他成了厂家最有力的销售!从个人的角度上来是说，无疑是想提高自己的技术水平，同时增加经济收入，来改善自己的生活条件，为自己找到一份满意的工作!收入多了，自然不必多说，然而，我们的技术真的提高了吗?表面上看，是!!你说CCIE和CCNA，哪个技术能力更强?勿容置疑:CCIE!但是CCIE真的是网络技术的专家吗?我看未必，尤其是现在，考试的水分不用我多说，大家都明白!只要对网络技术有一定兴趣，同时舍得花钱的人都会成为IE!我们公司就有个兄弟，考了3次，才勉强通过，花了七、八万，更可惜的是，虽然拿到了梦寐以求的证书，在就业的路上却不那么一路顺风!最重要的是别忘记了，我们是去应用网络技术，不是开发，是去把别人的思想通过实际*作应用的实际环境里去!你听说过，驾驶歼击机的飞行员是飞行专家吗?也许他将来是，但是只要去开飞机，就没有人称他是专家!去太空的人也最多称之为宇航员!一个把别人设计好的命令重新敲一边的工程师，最多是知道数据包的结构和转发原理人能称之为专家吗?有些牵强!

　　同时，网络的应用正从单一的业务模式向多业务模式拓展，刚通过Routing & Switching CCIE的兄

　　弟，你懂语音吗?你懂多媒体吗?你懂安全吗?你懂Unix，Linux、Oracle吗??不懂!可是用户有这样的需求，怎么办??学呀!!千万不要认为自己已经修炼到网络技术的最高境界，我们需要学习的东西太多太多了!!

　　2、能力才是最重要的

　　就这个话题，我举个例子说明一下，我2003年3月就通过了HCSE，可是拿到证书的第三天，我却去了一家专做CISCO的系统集成商，上班的第一天，悠闲的骑着自行车，嘴里还哼着:“原谅我这一生不羁放纵爱自由……”满怀信心，哪知到了公司板凳还没有坐稳。老板就把我派到南通某公司，说那正好有个项目，非常着急，必须尽快解决!还就我一个人去!说真的，当时心里真的没有底，心说话，完了，连熟悉产品的机会都没有了!!那也没有办法呀，硬着头皮登上了开往南通的汽车……

　　谁知道到那一看，我傻眼了，差点没有瘫下去，路由器，交换机自不必多说，还有5台PIX防火墙，一大堆无线AP，IP电话，还有什么Cisco Works 2000管理软件!我考的是华为认证，这些东西别说我以前见过，就连听都没有听说过!这时候怎么办??告诉客户我搞不定??打电话对老板说我学的仅仅是路由交换，其他的做不起来?能吗?都不能!!!还等什么呢，做吧!!我稍微镇定了一下，做个深呼吸，开始考查用户现在的网络状况，询问客户的需求，哪知道麻烦的还在后面，客户的需求简直太多了:总部与其他部分分部通过防火墙建立VPN，通过GRE隧道使用OSPF路由协议实现动态路由，同时要启用IPsec对数据进行加密、无线AP上划分VLAN，IP电话与PSTN互通……我狂晕!

　　我认真的作着笔记，把现有网络的设备的配置Copy下来，将新设备的型号，名称抄下来，回到宾馆看着刚才写下的东西，真是千头万绪!好不容易理清了条理!然而时间是紧迫的，我不敢怠慢，钻到互连网上，疯狂的查资料，找文档，结合自己的理论知识，整理出工程实施计划!后面的事情就不多说，自然千难万险，困难重重，在不能解决问题的时候，我总是漫天胡扯，但总能化险为夷。

　　半个月过去了，项目终于完成!客户在满意度调查表上填写的是:很满意!验收当然没有问题(当然也有我忽悠的工夫，哈哈)，但是我已经心力交瘁!我瘦了8斤!在拿到验收合格报告后，我躺在宾馆的床上思绪万千:我考的认证给我带来了什么??是轻松吗?不是 ，仅仅是个学习的机会!

　　话说到这里，也许有人说:如果你没有证书，别人都不会给你这个学习机会!是的，但是这也正恰恰说明一个问题:证书只在你应聘工作的那一刹那起作用，其他的时刻一文不值!考那家厂商的认证又不重要，重要的是你有没有真正掌握技术，能不能解决问题!!

　　今天的我，已经学习了许多认证之外的东西，比如，Linux、AIX uinx、Database、VOIP、Security等，还在学习ing!!

　　另外，网络技术正在走向国际标准化，每个设备生产厂商都必须遵守这些标准!所以对于我们来说，去认真的学习这些标准的技术才是最主要的，而不是盲目的去追求哪个厂商的认证!

　　对于获得某厂商认证的工程师来说，你不能排斥其他厂家的设备，比如，你是华为公司认证工程师，如果说你对CISCO这样的国际一流网络设备制造的东西都不会用，岂不是太遗憾了??如果你是CISCO 认证的工程师，更不能目空一切。

　　还有一点值得我们注意，网络技术的认证已经泛滥，许许多多的大学毕业生都涌入了认证的大潮里，势必造成有一天供大于求，那么多人挤在一个甬道里去争先恐后的分一杯羹，那时候我们还有价值吗?所以我还是奉劝那些计算机专业的兄弟姐妹们，网络技术的认证对其他专业的人说应该算捷径，而对于你们就不一定了，应该加强基础知识的学习，完善思想，比如学语言的尽量去从事开发，不能去考个什么认证就万事大吉了!就业的压力正向我们这一代袭来，那些想考认证还没有考的，或者正在考的，请你们仔细斟酌，认证过后，他到底能给你带来什么?

Having lots of problems with our v.o.i.p (voice over internet protocol phone). These are:-

1. No dialling tone until router is turned on and off etc.,
2. Dialling tone but when you get through to someone it immediately cuts off and goes to unobtainable
3. When you dial - you get nothing but unobtainable and then again have to turn off router and sometimes it clears on it's own and you get connected again.

Has anyone had similar problems - and are my suspicions well founded when I suggest that this is not due to there being a problem with the router but rather the exchange - and capacity. Have had it confirmed by network provide that problem is at the exchange with a data card that splits analogue and digital signal between pstn and voip lines but not had it admitted officially anyway that it is, as I greatly suspect a lack of capacity on the network via the internet because it piggybacks onto the pstn line - getting no real answers fast - need an unbiased answer please ?

Hi, I have a medium sized house (larger than average) with 3 floors of livable space so its kinda spread apart. We are looking into a home PBX system to simply things. What would be the cheapest system and phones to get for a home that would allow us the following features - possibly used or refurbished - I live in Calgary, Alberta (Canada, hopefully you got that if you live in the states, its the oil capital of Canada):

-2-4 lines (We might use VoIP-PSTN/POTS adapters for 1 long distance line and 2 VoIP private lines).
-Transfering Calls
-Auto Attendant
-Voicemails (4 personal and possibly 1 general)
-Music On Hold (I know this seems kind-of like something we dont need but I just think it would be kinda cool).
