voice over ip, voip providers,

Cisco VG200 W/ 2VIC 2FX With a Voice Gateway 200 and No PBX Just Call Manager Express on 2621XM.?

December 24, 2011

I know this sounds kind of boring and all not having a PBX (down the road) but this is for simple home use. I have a Cisco 2621XM w/ Call Manager Express, a Voice Gateway 200 w a 2 VIC 2FX card, and a 7906G VOIP IP Phone. All I (boringly) want to do is plug in a phone line into the VG200, run it through the 2621 w/ Call Manager Express, and ring ring. Sounds simple, over complicated for a basic phone line but there is a bit more to it down the road. Is this relatively easy to do? Also, how is licensing handled? Always the fun buster... Thanks!

It can be easy to do, if you know what you are doing. First you need to configure CME. From the command line you can go to config mode and go under telephony-service. There is a setup option there. That will get you up with basic features. You will then need to setup the ephone on the router, configure the voice port, make a dial peer and a dial plan, setup a trunk to the gateway....etc etc. Ok, so I lied, it is a little complicated. You can search Cisco.com and there are tons of config examples.

Enjoy.
