I have a Voice over IP (VOIP) and a desktop connected to the same router.
The VOIP is turned on all the time, but the PC is turned off when not in use. Is it possible for virus to enter my PC through the VOIP?
Sounds crazy but a friend of mine informed me. I wanted to have more opinions.

Theoretically yes. VOIP is connected to the Internet and if someone hacked the VOIP network they could leverage it to infect your PC with a virus when it is turned on. Whether or not the VOIP is on a Windows-based system is irrelevant. The hacker would simply be using the VOIP system's port to the Internet to gain access to your computer.
However, I cannot say I have ever heard of someone's PC being compromised this way. If it has happened it has not been very widespread. As long as you are using a reputable vendor for your VOIP solution you probably do not have anything to worry about. But, if you are using one of these little fly-by-night telecom vendors beng run out of a garage you many want to do a bit more checking on them.
