voice over ip, voip providers,

How do I know if my phone line is PSTN or RS232?

by admin on April 29, 2009

I'm installing a credit card machine at work – the instructions say to ensure its connected to a PSTN line, never RS232.
Can i use the same socket as i use for the fax line?

a phone line is PSTN.

plug a phone in, pick it up and if you've got dial tone, your ok.

(assuming your not using an IP phone or something )

Credit card machines just plug into any telephone socket, nothing complicated.

The instructions with your machine are slightly nonsense…all they needed to say was plug into a phone socket.

Hope you get it working before Christmas, i hate for you to miss out on those extra sales !
