I have heard people can get a phone line through their Internet connection called VOIP and use it just like regular landline phone, and they can even choose ANY area code they want. Sounds fantastic! I know we must get a special phone device, which has pre-installed modem???inside. Does anyone already use it or know how to get VOIP phone number for free and what device to purchase for using it? Thanks for any suggestions.

you need to research a VOIP provider, they exist just like regular telephone companies...
Skype, Vonage, the late SunRocket...some are cheaper than others...
I use skype....i bought a D-Link adapter to connect it to my existing PSTN network in my house.
My adapter cost me $40, and my Skype service costs about $4/mo...i can make unlimited outbound calls to 14 different countries, and recieve unlimited inbound calls with caller-id, voicemail, call forwarding..etc...
I have no complaints about the call quality either, its great.
Just keep in mind that Skype, unlink vonage, does not offer E-911 service.
