voice over ip, voip providers,

Where Can I Get a VoIP Provider Around Lunenburg, NS, With a Local Number?

May 2, 2009

Hi,

I am thinking about switching from a conventional phone provider over to a VoIP one, but am having problems trying to locate a local provider. I live near Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. What I want is a local number, along with the ability to pay for whatever minutes I use a month. Where could I find a provider like this?

Thanks,

Derrick

I am in Calgary, Alberta.
I switched to VoIP over a year ago. I did a lot of research and was not able to find a good Canadian VoIP service provider (VSP) that had very low rates. So, I settled for USA VSP's like CallCentric and InPhonex.
These services are strictly BYOD (bring your own device) and pay-as-you-go.... and No Contracts, no commitments.... just month-by-month.

I use both services. I picked InPhonex as my primary line because they provide e911 for Canadian subscribers, where as CallCentric does not, as yet. However, I like CallCentric for all my outgoing calls because their termination rates are cheaper (1.98¢/min). CallCentric also provides Calling Card access gateways in all major Canadian cities, so you can also use your VoIP account as a calling card, too.

I purchased my own user configureable Linksys PAP2T-NA VoIP adapter from Voip Depot in Canada:

I would recommend the SPA-2102-NA as it has it's own built-in Router.

These ATA's have two configurable phone ports.
I configure Line-1 with InPhonex and line-2 with CallCentric.
So, now I have 1 VoIP box configured to work with two separate VSP's simultaneously.
