voice over ip, voip providers,

Why Do I Lose My Wireless Router Internet Connection When I Have the Phone on With Compcast Digital Voice?

May 2, 2009

I have Comcast Digital Voice, internet, and tv. Everything worked fine until I just set up a wireless network in my house. I can get the internet to work fine, but whenever the phone is on through Comcast Digital Voice, we lose the internet connection. Anyone know why this happens and/or how I can avoid it? Thanks.

This is only a problem with wireless... when we have connected the PC directly to the cable modem via an ethernet cable, both internet and phone work fine at the same time.

You are using a technology called VOIP (Voice over IP), which means rather than a standard telephone line, you are calling over the internet.

What is more likely happening, is you telephone call is using all the bandwidth available on your network, thus giving the appearance of you internet losing its connection.

You could try to call you provider and ask how to adjust the bandwidth allocated to making voice calls.
